Home health aide. Direct care worker. Paid caregiver. There are many titles to describe someone who provides care for another, but it comes down to one thing: caring for people, real people.

Home health aides provide critical and often life-saving care for older adults who want to remain in their homes as they age. And, they provide much-needed support for family caregivers struggling to balance other responsibilities including careers and raising young families.

Council on Aging (COA) is accepting nominations for the 2025 Home Health Aide Hero Awards. The award recognizes area home health aides and paid caregivers for their critical role in helping COA fulfill its mission by providing exceptional care to vulnerable older adults.

“These awards are a reminder to this critical workforce that their efforts really do make a difference in the day-to-day lives of their clients,” said Council on Aging CEO Suzanne Burke.

If you know a home health aide or an AddnAide caregiver who goes above and beyond to provide exceptional care for older adults in our region, nominate them for a 2025 Home Health Aide Hero Award. The nomination process and eligibility criteria are described below.

Two winners will be selected and honored during Council on Aging’s Annual Meeting and Awards Celebration, March 5, 2025 at the Sharonville Convention Center. Award winners will be recognized in front of an audience of more than 400 professionals who work for and on behalf of older adults and individuals with disabilities in our region.

Anyone can nominate a home health aide or AddnAide caregiver, including COA’s providers, COA staff, COA clients, or the client’s caregivers/family.

Eligibility

Anyone who provides direct care to an older adult to help them remain independent in their home is eligible for this award, as long as the worker is:

  1. Employed by a Council on Aging contracted service provider, or
  2. Employed as a caregiver for an older adult via the AddnAide app or a consumer/self-directed care program.

Nomination Process

Please nominate someone you know who truly deserves to be recognized for their hard work and dedication in providing care to older adults.

You can nominate a deserving home health aide or AddnAide caregiver by filling out an online nomination form. The nomination should include a detailed description of why the nominee deserves to receive the Home Health Aide Hero Award. Please provide specific examples of how and when the nominee went above and beyond in providing care to their client(s).

If there are additional supporting materials you would like to provide as part of the nomination, please email them to ncahall@help4seniors.org. Examples of supporting documentation may include: letters of appreciation from clients/family members, client/family member testimonials, survey scores, etc.

Nominations will be accepted until December 31, 2024.

By recognizing home health aides for their essential work, we hope to remind them of how much their efforts matter and show our appreciation for their contributions.
